Default What I learned from the Biggest Loser

I used to get frustrated with the rate of loss on Weight Watchers. Anything less than a 2 lb. loss a week would put me over the edge.

But I watch the Biggest Loser and see these contestants who work out many hours a day, with world renowned professional trainers, they have doctors monitoring them, they have chefs teaching them, they have all the healthiest foods available to them and they don't have to hold down a job or run a household while living on this ranch. And sometimes after all that, they have only a 2 or 3 lb. loss.

Well then by golly, I'll be thrilled with a 1 or 2 lb loss while living in my home, taking care of my family, holding down a full time job and everything else that life throws at you!

This is something that hit me this week when I watched a few of the women, who are around the same size as me, lose 3 lbs. It really made me think.

Wow, I never thought of that but you are 100% correct on your thinking.

I am going to think about that next time I am feeling sorry for myself when the scale shows a minimal loss.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

THANK YOU
I needed to hear that. I get so despressed when I step on the scale and see a smaller loss than I expected. I feel my hard work was for nothing and the rollercoaster rears its ugly head again. I am going to keep positive and remeber this post the next time I step on the scale. any loss is a good loss.
everyone!

I have to admit I've never seen an episode. Ever.

Gina is absolutely right, though. If I had my own chef, my own personal trainer and all the time in the world to totally focus on my weight loss, I'm sure I'd could do better.

instead of looking a the numbers on the scale measure yourself instead...

if your clothes are getting looser and the inches around your bust, hip, waist, arms, and thighs gets SMALLER screw the scale and what it says... thats a number it doesnt define you and your weightloss.

if you add new muscle to your body and your weight increases are you going to be mad? its muscle not fat... and muscle is more dense...

thats why I only get on a scale every 3 months... I let my tape measure do the talking... if I am loosing/toning then my clothes are going to start getting looser... and for me thats what more important... try it you might like it

I may have only lost 3 lbs I have lost almost 2 pant sizes and for me that phenominal!

I have to say I LOVE BIGGEST LOSER! But I love how this thread has gone. It's the truth, and sometimes after watching the show it's hard to remember that. I know they do have to go back to the "REAL WORLD", but while were watching them (on the RANCH)they do have the advandges we don't have.
I'm a WW leader and one yr I went the whole yr losing only 3.5 pds. Dealing with work,my kids, all the running with ball, coaching, and STRESS!!! I should've lost more.BUT I did'nt, but what I did lose was inches. I lost almost 10 inches that yr!!! I don't always depend on the number on the scale to let me know how I'm doing. I take new measurements at the begining of each New Year. And I have been totally surpised by how many inches I have lost total.
I don't know if anybody has gotten the new BL book. But it has updated some of the people from past's show. And the women don't seem to be to willing to give there weight now!!! Make ya wonder Huh!!!

So please don't always count on the number on the scale, but the numbers on the "TAPE MEASURE".

also... why did they just show daniel and give his to date weight... they only showed Shay as a 24 hours later dealy thing....

Im confused

also you know whats really dumb... if they were playing the game... the REAL game they would have sent Amanda home.... why? the percentage of weight loss for Shay will always be LOW comapared to the others because she was so big... they could have KEPT her there another week or 2 then sent her home cause she'd have been the lowest and at that yellow line week after week... she CANNOT win

she can only win in the sense that she is getting healthier

kaneohegirl- I agree 100% that's the same reason they KEPT "MO" around (oh, I can't remember how many season's ago), cause they knew he's % would be low no matter how much weight he lost. But I guess they did'nt watch that season, or they would have sent Amanda home. But I also still can't for the life of me figure out how come she not losing as much weight. I would've thought she would have lost weight like Tara did season before. But I will say she does look so much slimmer and tones now. She's looks great.

And I did see Shay and Daniel on Jay Leno afterwards. And I beleive she said she has now lost about 120 something. Not for sure...but I think that's what I heard. But she and Daniel looked GREAT. And are both great role models.

Love this show so so much.

OMG---I love the Biggest Loser, I watch every season. I was so sorry to see Shay go home, Rudy so stabbed her in the back. I wish this show was on more than once a week, of course then I'd get nothing done.

Jillian Michaels just posted a picture of her and Shay on Twitter this morning as she was waiting to go on the Today show. Shay looks good. I, too, was confused as to why they didn't update Shay and just updated Daniel.

I suspect that they are saving Shay for the big reveal, but they are almost at the end and she doesn't have that much longer to lose weight.

I also meant to say that I have the BL 30 Day Jump Start book and I really like some of the recipes and a lot of the tips they give.

It is very much WW-friendly. The only thing that's different is that WW says to "limit" certain things and BL says "no" to certain things (in those first 30 days).
